Why Texas Hold’em is Called Texas Hold’em?

Texas Hold’em is a poker game with a long and intriguing history. It is a community card variant of poker where players try to make the best five-card hand of seven cards dealt to them. Texas Hold’em came to Las Vegas in 1967. Poker enthusiast Crandell Addington began touting it as a ‘thinking man’s game.’ He noticed that the game relied on strategic thinking rather than just luck.

For a while, those who wanted to play Texas Hold’em in Las Vegas had to do so at the Golden Nugget, which was infamous for its dodgy clientele and sawdust floors. When Dune Casino held a Texas Hold’em tournament in 1969, it was a game-changer. High-stakes gamers wanted to participate in this tournament and experience the game. The casino occupied a prominent position on the Las Vegas strip. The following year saw the rebranding of the Gambling Fraternity Convention into the World Series of Poker by Benny and Jack Binion.

World Series events

In 1971, the father and son duo featured Texas Hold’em as the main event of the tournament. Ever since then, no limit Texas Hold’em has been the main event. The numbers weren’t high for the first couple of years, but the game increased in popularity each year. Today, poker tournaments like the annual World Series event have thousands of competitors. The tournament winner is the last player remaining who has accumulated all the chips from other players.
